Former African footballer of the year, Emmanuel Amunike believes that the Golden Eaglets will win a record fourth FIFA U-17 World Cup diadem on November 8, which is the day that the final of the tournament will hold in Abu Dhabi.Nigeria are to play Uruguay in a quarterfinal match tomorrow at Sharjar, with Amuneke, who is one of the assistant coaches of the Eaglets, supremely confident that the Nigerians were going to overrun their South American foes.
Speaking in an interview with Sports Vanguard, Amunike, said that “this has been a very interesting tournament for us and we’re grateful everything is going according to plans. “We are staying focused, and hopefully, this team will get to the final and win the Cup. The boys have done well. But to be champion, you have to face challenges squarely. I’m happy the players are living up to expectation”, he added.
However, he noted that the Eaglets did not consider their foes as lightweights, pointing out that the Uruguayans have proved their mettle getting thus far in the competition. “We have to respect them and be aware that any team that gets to the last eight at a tournament of this magnitude is not a push-over. We’re just concentrating and staying focused. That’s the only way to get to the final and make Nigerians proud.”
